Life is all about balance.
When we are not balanced we seek to get it; when we are in balance we seek to keep it.
When we are in a balanced state we are usually happy with the way our live is. Knowing how we feel during such a time motivates us to try and stay in this blissful state of being balanced.
Unbalanced
When we are not balanced we don’t feel motivated, things are not always going smoothly and we have a feeling of uneasiness, and we are not always able to pinpoint where it is coming from. Some people become depressed but don’t really know for sure why they feel depressed. Others vent their unbalanced feeling as anger. And yet another group becomes apathetic and don’t really care what is happening around them.
Knowing you are unbalanced
When you look closely at someone’s live, who is feeling unbalanced, you will notice that their surroundings are also unbalanced. Their living space is cluttered, their ambitions are unfulfilled, and they go from one day into the next drugging through live, seemingly without joy. Knowing you are unbalanced is the first step in order to be able to do something about your state.
Knowing you are unbalanced and doing something about this are no easy things.

Sometimes an event in our lives all of a sudden opens our eyes and we realize we are so unbalanced that we didn’t even realize it. We then are able to change things and strive for life to become balanced once more. We don’t usually get to this “AHA” moment, often it is a more gradual process that brings us to the realization were we stand in live.
Other times friends or relatives are able to show us what we were blind to see ourselves.
The process
Opening your mind and soul to your inner self; asking hard questions that you have been avoiding and trying to be honest with yourself, takes courage. It can be a long and painful process and sometimes we discover things about ourselves that we are not happy with. This is all part of the process.
As with all projects we need to break things into smaller steps, steps we can manage and that doesn’t leave us overwhelmed and discouraged, drawing us deeper into this state of being unbalanced.
Picking a project
Look around you and examine your living space. Then decide which it is that you feel is annoying you the most, choose a small project: for example cleaning up the kitchen counter. Take everything of the counter and clean it up. Then decide where all the stuff goes that you took off. Does it go back on the counter, or is there a better place to store this item? Take your time deciding until you are happy with the result. Examine how you feel during this process. Do you feel resentful having to let go of certain items? Why? Or are you feeling relieved of burdens carried that no longer matter?
Why we do spring cleaning.
Remember small projects like this can be a start for you to become more balanced. Our mothers and their mothers did do spring cleaning for a reason; not just to get rid of the dust, but also to re-balance their living space and thus their lives.
Feng Shui
The Feng Shui principle of balance is built on the same foundation. To become balanced, the Chi or life force needs to be able to flow freely. When your living space is cluttered it can’t flow freely and reach all the corners of your living space; creating stagnant and negative areas.
Back to nature
We all know how we feel when we get outside and enjoy nature where we really can open up and fill our lungs with fresh air; it lifts us up and lightens our footsteps. Enjoying being outdoors brings us closer to becoming balanced. Therefore many recommend for us to reconnect with nature, to go out and enjoy a walk outside.
And maybe that is also why many of us like to read about organizing, de-cluttering and living simpler lives. It all helps us getting closer to being balanced.
Benefits
Besides the obvious benefit: having a cleaner and more organized living space; other benefits are:
• Being able to be more productive. Things are easier to find, and when you are in a space that is feeling light and not overburdened with clutter, your mind has less distractions and you are able to focus on the job on hand more freely.
• Because you feel more relaxed and less distracted; ideas will be able to come into your conscious mind more easily.
• A clean living space is healthier to live in, and you will feel more energized and able to breathe easier.
• You will attract positive people more easily in your life.
What other benefits do you find when your living space and live are more balanced?
