Calcium supplements
Today I want to talk a bit more about supplementation, and the topic of supplementation is Calcium. Calcium supplements are essential for building healthy bones.
We all know Calcium is an essential dietary supplement. Some of the main sources where we can get Calcium from are dairy products, like milk, cheese and yoghurt. We can also get Calcium from some grains and legumes (beans, peas and lentils) as well as nuts.
Strong bone formation
Calcium is needed to help form bones and teeth. And it is also very important for normal functioning of nerves, muscles and the heart, as well it is an essential part in blood clotting.
Daily needs
How much do we need daily? Well that depends largely how old you are, the commended amount daily for ages 19-50 is 1000 mg. Too much Calcium can be harmful, so when starting any dietary supplement it is always good practice to check with your doctor if you have any health conditions (like Kidney disease) that may affect you adversely.
Possible benefits
High Calcium intake have been suggestive of reduction in some forms of cancer, where as it increases the risk of others. More studies are needed to be more conclusive.
