Hot and Cold Water therapy
Hot and cold water therapy, or hydro therapy has been used in one form or other for thousands of years. Here follows a short explanation of what this is and some of its benefits.
About 3 years ago, I started going to a wellness center here in town. Hot and cold water therapy is one of the services they offer. What I loved most was the sauna, and ever since then I have been going on and off for my favorite spa treatment. At that time when I was taking treatments, Hydrotherapy, or local cold therapy, was also part of my regime.
There is a lot of information about the benefits of the cold and the heat water therapy, especially in extreme measures. It seems that whether you want a healthy brain or a quicker metabolism, applying a certain temperature to your body can cause an abundance of positives. But in order to feel these benefits we have got to go for cryotherapy* or head to a sauna or steam room.
What if we do not have the money to do these things? Then we have to figure out a way to do our own cut-price version. With this in mind, are there ways for us to get benefits of this hot and cold therapy?
Switching The Temperature In The Shower
Be careful with this, especially if your shower is incredibly sensitive. One slight turn in the wrong direction can mean you will very likely burn. While there are plenty of skin pain relief remedies out there, when it comes to adjusting your tolerance for the heat or cold, be sure to do it gradually. The benefits of alternating the temperature in the shower can help you after exercise, because the lactic acid flushes out of your system quicker and can relax your muscles.
Get In An Ice Bath
Once you build up your tolerance to the cold, you can try an ice bath. If you have no experience of cold water at all, this can be a major shock to the system, so be careful. An ice bath is a wonderful way for you to repair aching and damaged muscles. At the same time, if you are not adapted to the cold, be sure to do it gradually.
And this is when going back into the shower and getting the temperature down each and every time you go in can prove to be the best way. If you have too much of a shock, it could cause a heart attack, so be careful!
Exercising In Heat
There are heat shock proteins that can be a benefit to your mind and body, and before we get to this point, we have to prepare ourselves for the extreme heat. Many people are not used to sweating buckets. While there are classes like hot yoga that can help with this, remember that you have to listen to your body. If you get really dizzy, be sure to stop what you’re doing. Remember to breathe through it all. Holding your breath in extreme heat means you are very likely to pass out.

I was so overwhelmed by the empathy, confessions & personal stories of chronic pain in response to my previous post I thought what the hell. Maybe I should just share some of my personal remedies I’ve acquired over the past five years. Everyone’s body and condition is different U should consult w ure Dr. but what the heck here we go! When my body goes into a spasm one thing I find really helps is infrared sauna. I’ve invested in one.
Exercising will raise your core body temperature all by itself. When you are looking to get a bit more heat, you can very easily do this at home. Turn the heating up, close the windows, and let your body sweat out the toxins. In addition, make sure that you replenish the salts in your body by drinking plenty of water afterwards as well as taking an electrolyte supplement if necessary.
Word of caution
Remember, if you do not feel the benefits, or it is making you unwell, you will have to stop. There are a lot of people that talk about extreme cold and extreme heat, but it’s about adapting and acclimatizing your body to it. You should never jump right into these things!
