February 14
Valentines day February 14 is coming up fast! Do you celebrate Valentines day? What kind of things do you like to give or create?
We don’t usually celebrate Valentines day to big, but this year I decided I was going to make some country, rustic looking hearts.
For inspiration I turned to Pinterest, my ultimate idea catalogue, and I was not disappointed, because I found many unique looking hearts!

Heart pattern
I used a stencil with different sizes of hearts to make my pattern out of brown butcher paper.

After cutting out different sizes from different kinds of fabric, I was looking for some contrast with the above material. From the wedding we had some drop cloths left, and these were the perfect color and texture I was looking for.

Heart and stickers

Heart and stickers
Different sizes of hearts were stitched to one side of the template, I had found some cloth labels and thought they would add some more interest to the finished product. They were stitched randomly to the front, or the back panel of the finished heart, then everything was stitched together, the blue and country hearts were sewn good sides together , then turned. The rustic and drop cloth hearts were sewn wrong sides together, leaving the raw edges on the outside.

Sewing it all together.
When sewing, I like to continuously string items together, this eliminates the risk that the thread comes out of the needle, necessitating having to re-thread it, which I very much do not like doing.

Hearts
Here is a random collection of some of the hearts, after they were stuffed with cotton bathing and sewn closed.

I added twine for easy hanging. These hearts can be used for year round decorating fun.

Those hearts are a great way to use up scraps of fabric or old clothes for a keepsake. Thanks for the link party too, shared a paint storage repurpose project and a St. Patrick’s Day project.
Thanks Erlene, These hearts are such a nice and easy project to do while watching tv for example. Your St. Patrick’s Day project is very cute!
I love your puffy hearts. I linked up my own puffy heart that I made from my son’s favorite flannel shirt.
Thanks Denise, is your son keeping his flannel shirt heart? Or are you keeping it as a memento?
